Thanksgiving, Events, and Announcements
CAC Loving Family Day Carnival
Thanks be to God for the successful CAC Carnival last week. 2000 people participated, and 185 of them were from Sengkang Methodist Church. It was great to see so many people come together to celebrate love and family. We’re thankful SKMC supported the event by making it accessible to people with disabilities. The church would like to thank the 15 volunteers who became befrienders for these families. This event was attended by 7 families with special needs.
Alpha@SKMC Thanksgiving
We thank God for the smooth completion of the Alpha journey at SKMC, experienced by 30 participants (17 English, 13 Mandarin). We also thank God for the Alpha team members and companions for their commitment and love. All Glory to God.
May Pastoral Teachings
Date: 7 May 2023
Time: 11am – 12.15pm
Venue: MPH 3-1
In 1739, John Wesley started forming Methodist societies. By the time he died
in 1791, there were 72,000 Methodists in Britain and 57,000 in America. Within a generation, 1 in 30 people in Britain were Methodists, and there were more Methodist churches than post offices in the United States. Methodists not only grew in number. They became known for their Christian piety and their wider societal impact in areas as varied as education, medicine, and justice reform.
Central to this explosive Wesleyan revival was the formation of Methodist societies, classes and bands. Wesley called this “social holiness”, or holiness pursued in, with, and through small groups. In many ways, Wesley was the father of the modern church small-group movement. In this pastoral teaching seminar, we seek to understand the contours of the Methodist movement, draw inspiration from our forebears, and pray that the Lord will do something powerful again in our day. Come and take hold of that glorious heritage that is ours as a people called Methodist!
